The Approch

Vera Mobile App

Our challenge was to allow users to quickly view and share secure files they received on mobile devices. We also needed the experience to feel seamless and share-worthy. We were working with new technology, different mobile devices, and different file formats. It was a considerable challenge and undertaking.

A vital part of this project was understanding the many workflows along with the technology restraints on each mobile device.

Beginning Stages

I kicked this project off with user personas. This helped us better understand how users would interact with the app. I worked with the team, to closely to understand every workflow. After our analysis, we knew we needed to focus on two main persons and environments. The {end user} and the {internal employees}.

End-User Perspective

First, I focused on refining the experience around the {end users} perspective on Android and iOS. I knew the main goal for them was to make viewing secure files on mobile as seamless as possible.

Due to restraints in the technology at the time I ran into some pretty significant hurdles on iOS with this feature. It took months of creative solutions, user studies, and testing.

Internal Vera User Perspective

Next, we focused on the {internal employee} perspective. This use case was robust, as internal Vera users had more options. They could view secure files on mobile just like end users, but they could also apply policies, give access, and manage access.

On-boarding

On-boarding was crucial for the mobile app success, and we needed to go about it in two different ways as we had two different user stories. ( Interactive Approach and Feature Approach )

Individuals who received Vera secured files on mobile but were not using Vera as a service were required to install the app to view secure files. Therefore, the on-boarding flow needed to focus on getting them to the file as quickly as possible. We used an Interactive Approach that navigated them through the process and got them to the file quickly.

On-boarding tutorial

Companies using Vera as a service had the benefit of quickly installing Vera app from the app store. Therefore, their on-boarding experience was different. We created a features approach walkthrough that provided value-oriented on-boarding that builds context around the app revealing its benefits.
