The Challenge
Redesign of the Vera Policy Badge
Until Vera, no solution provided a way to protect files after they'd been shared. For example, if a file is shared as an email attachment, it wasn't possible to truly remain in control of that file because recipients could do whatever they wanted once they possessed it. That's exactly the problem Vera solved by securing information at the file level. Since data and information is the foundation of every business, but every company has different workflows and leverages a full breadth of applications, usability was vital. It was imperative that the Vera product didn't impact end-users' productivity or businesses' operational agility and worked smoothly across operating systems, applications, and devices.
With the many file formats that Vera secures Vera needed a way to show that the file is secure but also give vital policy information. However, the concept needed to be compact and non-intrusive on valuable document content.
From Bar to Badge
By conducting testing sessions and surveys in the field. We found that the policy bar was lacking vital security information and was more invasive than helpful. We were able to take the insights from these sessions, iterate quickly, and test different solutions.
The newly evolved design was able to become robust and interactive but also simplistic.
Overview of the new Badge
Vera is all about securing data at the file level. With so many file formats out there, Vera needed to show that a file is secure, but also give vital policy information without impacting the end-user. By redesigning the policy bar, we were able to bring critical security information to the user's attention, in a simple, non-intrusive way.
Basic Functionality
The simplicity of the design allows the user to focus on the task at hand without any {frustrating} security blockers. Whether your the owner or receiver of a secure file, a single click provides the end-user with critical policy information.
Permissions, Actions & Notifications
With a designated place on a secure file, the user will always know where to go to view what permissions they have. However, a user doesn't have to be restrained by the badge. Vera informs the user of their permissions as they interact with it.
